Introducing the Bright Spot Blog

bright spot location on Santa Cruz beach boardwalk

Welcome to our new blog. A place to share stories and tell tales old and new. A place to inspire and entertain.

It’s our own little bright spot on the internet. And it also pays homage to where it all began.

As the story goes, Ted Whiting, Jr. was a milkman delivering Meadow Gold milk to Boardwalk establishments in the 1950s. His future became a little brighter when he discovered the Bright Spot Concession was for sale…and thus began the history of Whiting’s Foods.

This one concession lead to many, including Bright Spot #2 (currently known as Sweet Spot), as seen in the vintage photo above. To guests, this location is a colorful castle-like building serving up ice cream, cotton candy, and other treats. But to us, it is part of our origin story. And, it’s a very fitting title for our new blog where we will highlight not only our history, but current stories too. From a behind-the-scenes look at our fun food to alumni profiles and education for our current and future crew members, we hope we brighten your day with these posts.

We look forward to sharing some fun stuff online, and hope you keep coming back to read, but remember the real magic in life happens offline. Come see at the Boardwalk and Santa Cruz Warriors Arena to experience the fun in-person!
